Dr. Higa's Original EM-1 Probiotic Microbial Inoculant

$22.97

Dr. Higa's Original EM-1 probiotic is a liquid blend of beneficial microorganisms, originally formulated by Dr. Teruo Higa, also known as Effective Microorganisms. Dr. Higa's Original EM-1 has many uses straight from the bottle, including as a probiotic for animal digestion and immune system enhancer, and a nontoxic household cleaner and mold/ mildew/ odor/ stain remover. It is a great way to replace many toxic cleaners and chemicals. It can also be used to make up to 5 gallons of probiotic or antioxidant superfood brew by fermenting with water, molasses, and other ingredients such as herbs, rock powders, ocean minerals, sea salt, etc. You can also brew a super plant food by fermenting EM-1 with molasses, high ORMUS rock powders, sea salt, organic rice bran and other organic plant material, and water. These microorganisms, when ingested or introduced into any living system, promote the growth of naturally occurring beneficial bacteria to achieve a healthy microbial balance by crowding out pathogenic organisms and helping "pleomorphic" organisms to convert from pathogenic, or harmful, to beneficial.

EM also breaks down and neutralizes toxins in the environment, making it useful for bioremediation of land and water.

6 Rules of Choosing a Probiotic

Ingredients:

1% microorganisms. 1 million colony forming units/cc (units/ml) comprised of:

  • Lactobacillus plantarum
  • Lactobacillus casei
  • Lactobacillus fermentum
  • Lactobacillus delbrueckii
  • Bacillus subtilis
  • Saccharomyces cerevisiae
  • Rhodopseudomonas palustris

Inactive Ingredients

96% water and 3% molasses

* Not all microbes are listed on the actual label.

† Notes on molasses and honey: both of these sugars are used to grow the microbes during fermentation. For people concerned about glycemic indexes, diabetes, or are trying to avoid sugar, the sugars are fully digested by the microbes and will not cause blood sugar spikes nor will the product increase any other sugar-related issues. If you are on a diet that is trying to avoid sugars, there is no need to be concerned with these sugars being used as ingredients since there are no sugars present in the finished product after fermentation.

Suggested Use:

As a probiotic for animals, mix approximately one teaspoon to one tablespoon per 100 pounds of weight in water or juice one to five times a day. Download our usage guide (PDF format) for other uses and more details.

What's The Difference Between PRO EM-1, EM-1, and Renew Life Probiotics?

PRO EM-1 is similar to EM-1 but is specifically designed for daily human consumption where EM-1 is designed for a variety of applications, especially animal husbandry, agricultural, and environmental applications. PRO EM-1 is made with food grade ingredients in an FDA-approved human food grade facility, and it is fermented with the addition of honey and aloe while leaving out the yeast lactobacillus delbrueckii which gives a sour vinegar taste.

EM-1 is not made in a food grade facility but must be made in sanitary conditions to avoid contamination of the culture. Some people use the EM-1 to make fermented superfood brews and a probiotic for daily consumption for animals and plants to save significant amounts of money over buying probiotics, plant foods, or soil inoculants.

The Renew Life probiotics we sell are for human consumption and have a different set of probiotic strains and a much higher concentration per dose, making them the most effective probiotic when cleansing or aiding digestive issues, they just don't have as wide a range of uses as EM-1. Ken Rohla uses both EM probiotics and Renew Life when cleansing.

Storage

Store in a closed container at room temperature out of direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate, freeze, or heat above 115° Fahrenheit (46° C); this is a live culture and refrigeration or excessive heat will reduce live bacteria count more quickly over time. Do not use in hot liquids. EM-1 is best if used before “Best used by” date on product, but the culture may be "activated" to grow more microbes by adding 3 tablespoons of organic blackstrap molasses per quart of EM-1 and mixing thoroughly. If activated, leave bottle cap slightly loose, enough to allow fermentation gas to escape.

It is okay if it EM-1 has some whitish flakes on the top surface or sediment on the bottom of the bottle, these are harmless by-products of fermentation.
