CAMPGROUNDS
There are two nice full-service campgrounds in New Smyrna Beach, both very close to each other, with lots of trees within a ten-minute drive of our location:
See Google Campground Listings for other area campgrounds.
WEATHER AND INSECTS
Hurricanes occur in the Daytona Beach area every five or so years and are most likely to hit from August through October. You can't really put credence in weather warnings about an "active hurricane season this year" because the weather forecasters typically predict busy hurricane seasons every year.
Typically mid-October through mid-December, and mid-March through May the weather is mostly sunny, dry and very comfortable, few to no biting insects, with temperatures ranging from the upper 60s at night to low 80s during the day.
Mid-December through mid-March temps are typically in the 70s during the day and 50s
at night, but occasionally can get to freezing at night with highs in the 40s during the
day. There are few to no biting insects during these months.
June and the first half of October are typically warm, with highs during the day in the upper 80s to lows at night in the low 70s. Biting insects are out but tolerable.
July, August, and September are typically hot and humid, with highs in the high 80s to low 90s, frequent afternoon rain showers and lightning storms during the day, and lows in the 70s to low 80s at night. Biting insects are very prevalent, especially mosquitoes and no-see-ums (tiny gnat-like insects, aka "biting midges"). Camping is not recommended during these months unless you're a hardy camper.
